California Group Health Insurance
California Group Health Insurance is a great way to keep and reward valued employees by providing medical protection for them and their families. J.C. Lewis Insurance Services offers a variety of affordable and flexible options allowing companies to choose portfolios and contribution options suited to their specific needs. We encourage all employers to consider a small group proposal prior to sending employees to the California health insurance exchange (Covered California). Employers and employees may be better served under an employer based policy because every group is different and like many things, it depends.
We assist employers (between 1-50 employees) with the initial set-up, annual renewal, and on-going maintenance each company requires and are contracted to sell policies only from the leading carriers licensed to do business in California (Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, California Choice, Health Net, Kaiser Permanente, United Health Care, and Western Health Advantage). Below are some things you may want to consider prior to calling us:
- While employers are required to pay a portion of employees premiums, we offer contribution options as low as 50%. Depending on the carrier you may choose between a fixed dollar or percentage contribution. We offer flat dollar contributions as low as $100 monthly per employee.
- Employer contributions can be 100% tax deductible on your state and federal income taxes.
Employee Participation
- Generally, 65-75% of eligible full-time employees must participate in the program. Employees considered to be eligible waivers (employees with Medicare, military benefits, or those covered under a spouse’s group plan) are not included in the employee participation percentage.
- There must be a minimum of one W-2 employee who is not a spouse of the owner or partner.
We recommend that you prepare the applicable items below as we commonly request them of new groups:
- DE-9C or quarterly tax a wage statement from the previous calendar quarter
- Most recent 60 days of payroll stubs for newly hired employees not listed on the DE-9C
- Fictitious business name filing, California business license, or articles of incorporation with stamped and signed statement of information
- A current filed IRS 1040 Schedule C or Schedule K-1 (Form 1120S)
Each small business is unique and may require information in addition to what has been listed above.
